How do the best holidays start? With a trip to the airport, of course!
Not wanting to disappoint Thor and Princess (and Daddy, too), we stratigically planned this trip to start with a delux trip on a 737. Well, maybe it will be more delux next year when Thor actually gets his own seat.
The trip had an auspicious start when we had to wake both kids from their naps to get to the airport on time. Another exciting feature of trips to airports is taxi rides. At least for Princess. I still don't get the fascination. I mean, it's just like our car only less comfortable and driven by some stranger she won't even look at.
We spent our first night in heavenly arrangements - with friends who have a trampoline, a swimming pool, and LOTS of Thomas the tank engine trains. What more could two kids desire!
The first part of our holiday was actually work. But who cares about work when there are kangaroos around. So hubby and I worked while the kids played. It was busy but fun.
Then we had our 'real' holiday. Hubby found a place a stone's throw from the beach. It was heaven for all of us. There was sand, waves, and more sand. You could eat outside every day and for mommy and daddy, there was space in the house to move. Oh, and a coffee shop about 10 minutes away with cakes that set hubby to drooling. But we won't talk about that now!
Thor found great joy in launching himself off sand 'cliffs' onto the beach below. Princess' favorite activity was having daddy dig a tunnel and then crashing it down. Despite lips quivering with cold, they loved the surf - as long as it was gentle. The surf at our beach was a little too much for Thor who barely coped with the tidal pools. Princess was a bit more adventurous until she and daddy had to go under a few waves. That was it for the little girl. But romping naked (or near naked) is a close second!
We spent one afternoon at the shopping center where hubby watched the kids while I updated my wardrobes. The kids were having a good time playing in the coin operated cars. Incidentally, they have no concept of what happens when you actually put the coin in! The excitement factor escalated though, when the Easter bunny made an appearance.
Princess and Thor have never really met the Easter bunny nor have we talked about him. They weren't too impressed when he came by - until they got a taste of the chocolate easter eggs in his basket. Thirty minutes later, Thor was running to the escalator shouting 'eas bunny' every time he saw the poor thing.
We rounded off the trip with another airplane trip. Care to join us next time?

Love to join you.
I can shed some light on the taxi phenomenon. They SMELL different. You get in and the seats FEEL different. And the fact that it's NOT your car is what makes it exciting. And there's a driver ID badge to look at, and you can listen to the taxi calls on the 2-way radio... there's just so much excitment about it. I still like travelling in taxis.
Not least is what the taxi is called: is it a silver service cab, or a yellow top, or an express... so many choices!!!
Princess and Thor are such cutie pies. Always enjoy reading your blog. Where did you guys go?
Cec, thanks for the taxi insights. Any time you and the princess want to share the experience I'm sure she'll be ready!
ML, we went to Brisbane, country New South Wales (involved driving through a lot of the northeastern part of the state) and the northern coast near Tweed Heads.
